This is new territory for us and a chance to further close the loop. We have fertilizer eggs arriving shortly of some new breeds (and more Copper Marans). We will use an incubator this first time but hope this gal would like to raise the chicks. A chick raised with a chicken mother seems far superior & easier than for us non-chickens to raise the chicks.

I generally shoot for mid May as a frost free date I generally shoot for mid May as a frost free date for zone 5B. We had such warm weather two weeks ago and now this chilly cold front swept through. It’s hard to believe it got down to 25F last night. 

Thankfully the tomatoes stayed cozy under floating row cover and chicken heat lamps (the chickens were just fine with their fluffy down feathers). It remains to be seen how the perennials will fare. 

Climate change is climate uncertainty. I think that’s about the only thing we can count on reliably now.
